What is AVA?
AVA — the AI Virtual Assistant — is the patient-facing interface of the 1docAI platform. Available around the clock via WhatsApp, AVA provides Singapore's first clinically-informed AI health companion: triaging symptoms, coordinating care, guiding patients through their 1doc health journey, and escalating to the DEC system when clinical red flags are detected.
AVA is not a general-purpose chatbot. It is trained on 1docAI's clinical knowledge base, has access to the patient's relevant Evidence Graph data (with consent), and operates within clearly defined clinical boundaries — always directing patients to qualified physicians when the situation requires it.
In the 1docAI community hospital model, AVA fills the role of the A&E triage nurse — the first clinical contact, available at any hour, trained to identify what matters most and route the patient to the right care.
What can AVA do?
AVA vs generic AI health chatbots
AVA is differentiated from generic AI health assistants by three factors: it operates within 1docAI's clinical governance framework, with clearly defined escalation pathways supervised by qualified physicians; it has access to the patient's Evidence Graph context (with consent), so responses are personalised rather than population-generic; and it is designed and supervised by Dr Eugene Loke, Medical Director of 1doc Health Group and Adjunct Clinician Educator at NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
AVA and the 1doc Health Coach
In the 1docAI model, each health coach manages up to 1,000 patients. AVA handles the high-frequency, lower-acuity interactions that would otherwise consume the coach's capacity — appointment reminders, general health questions, progress check-ins — freeing the coach to focus on clinically complex cases that require human judgment and relationship.
AVA also serves as the data collection layer for the Evidence Graph between clinical interactions, capturing patient-reported outcomes and lifestyle data that enriches the predictive model continuously.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
AVA is 1docAI's AI Virtual Assistant — a clinically-informed health companion available 24/7 via WhatsApp and in the 1doc app. AVA can triage symptoms, book clinic appointments, answer health questions, and coordinate your care across the 1doc network.
-
No. AVA provides health information, symptom guidance, and triage — it does not diagnose medical conditions. When AVA identifies symptoms that require clinical assessment, it will direct you to a 1doc physician or, if urgent, advise you to seek emergency care. All medical diagnoses and treatment decisions are made by qualified 1doc family physicians.
-
AVA and AHA serve different functions within the 1docAI ecosystem. AVA (AI Virtual Assistant) is the patient-facing interface — the conversational health companion patients interact with directly. AHA (AI Health Coach Assistant) is the clinical monitoring layer that supports health coaches in managing continuous patient care, operating behind the scenes across the wearable telemetry and Evidence Graph data.
-
With your consent, AVA can access relevant information from your Evidence Graph — your 1doc health record — to provide personalised guidance. Data access is governed by Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and you control what AVA can and cannot access.
